Camden, S.C. – Central Carolina Technical College officially kicked off its Kershaw County Campus expansion by hosting a groundbreaking ceremony Friday morning. The current campus, at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Highway 521, originally opened in 2010 as an extension of the Kershaw County Downtown Campus.

“This is truly an exciting day for Central Carolina Technical College. Expanding our Kershaw County Campus will provide students more options and shorter commutes in our four-county service area. We try to accommodate our students’ needs so their path to success, and ultimately graduation, is as easy as possible,” said Tim Hardee, president of the college.

The expansion will allow CCTC to offer all the courses necessary to earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree entirely at our Kershaw County Campus. In addition, the college’s welding and mechatronics programs will be offered at the new facility.

The expansion was funded with $5 million from Kershaw County Council and $3 million from the State of South Carolina. The college’s capital funds contribution brought the total cost of the project to $10 million. The addition will be approximately 40,000 square feet and is scheduled for completion in Spring 2017.

“This expansion is the next step in our commitment to a trained and ready workforce. The dramatic growth in the student population in Kershaw County will be well served by this new building and the exciting programs that Central Carolina will offer there. Working together as partners, this campus expansion proves that Kershaw County is indeed "Open for Business," said Julian Burns, Kershaw County Council chairman.

Architectural design for the new building is being handled by architectural design firm McMillan-Pazdan-Smith Architecture.
