Business Services

A new industry target sector for Kershaw County is Business Services, which includes corporate offices, call centers, back office operations, and claims and processing centers among others. Kershaw County offers several advantages to these types of companies that include:
  • Kershaw County has a growing population with a 21% increase in the last census. The West Wateree area grew by 48% during this same time period.
  • Kershaw County’s outmigration of workers provides companies with a large potential pool of workers. In 2000, over 11,000 residents drove out of the county to go to work with over 6,500 traveling to nearby Columbia. A large number of these commuters are white-collar workers.
  • 17.39% of citizens of Kershaw County have attended college (including two-year colleges) with 14.99% being college graduates.
  • Fiber optic cable, DSL, and cable are all located within the county offering companies high speed internet access from several different providers.
  • A quality of life that includes a small town atmosphere with access to the metropolitan amenities of Columbia.
  • A cost of living that is well below the national average at 93.8%.
Currently, Kershaw County is in the process of developing a Class A Office Park in the growing West Wateree area.  The Wateree Executive Park is located on 60 acres at Interstate 20 just minutes from northeast Columbia.  This proximity to Columbia offers excellent access to a large skilled workforce of over 225,000 workers.  In addition, the County is developing a 60,000 SF virtual call center shell building in Wateree Executive Park.  This virtual building will have permit ready building plans and a graded building pad ready for construction.
