Events
Kershaw County has several festivals and events through out the calendar year, but none are more popular than the steeplechases. The Carolina and The Colonial Cup are held in the spring and fall respectively. The Carolina Cup is the premier steeplechase in the state and draws over 70,000 spectators and tailgators alike each year.
One of the other more popular and newer festivals in Kershaw County is Camden’s Downhome Blues Festival. This three day music festival is held every October in various venues throughout historic downtown Camden. Every year the festival hosts national acts as well as local favorites such as Drink Small.

Fine Arts Center - A full menu of cultural activities keeps county residents entertained. The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, located on five acres in downtown Camden, has one of the most comprehensive arts programs in the state. The complex includes restored 155 year old house for meetings and offices, a 300 seat auditorium and art gallery, and a 6,700 square foot Arts Education Building. Over 50,000 people participate each year in plays, concerts, receptions, special events, art classes, and workshops at the Fine Arts Center.

The Carolina Cup race meeting is a time honored South Carolina tradition that has achieved premier social event status. This annual rite of spring draws over 70,000 fans from throughout the southeast to enjoy the thrilling sport of steeplechase horse racing amid a flurry of spring fashions and elaborate tailgate parties. From the Corporate Terrace to College Park, old friends meet and new friends are made during the afternoon of seven races.

The Marion duPont Colonial Cup is steeplechase horse racing's premier event. The Colonial Cup draws over 15,000 fans and horsemen from up and down the eastern seaboard. Traditionally held the third weekend in November, the Colonial Cup provides the seasons grand finale - often deciding all the national titles.

Revolutionary War Field Days is held each November on the grounds of Historic Camden and features a re-enactment of the Battles of Camden and Hobkirk Hill. In addition to the battles, the event features local crafts, living history demonstrations and regimental drills.

The Carolina Downhome Blues Festival offers three jam packed days of the most authentic, gritty blues artists in the world. Events include Happy Hour performances, Early Evening Concerts, and performances in fifteen different venues around the Camden area.

The Elgin Catfish Stomp, held in December, welcomes thousands to sample the tantalizing stew made from prime local catfish. Live country music, square dancing and good hearted competitions round out the thoroughly unique day.

The Camden Polo Cup- Enjoy carriage driving and side saddle exhibitions, field-side tailgating, fast paced on field action and stomping the divots. Held each May at the historic Polo Field in Camden, the fund raiser for the Fine Arts Centers grows every year.

The South Carolina Equine Park is a 40 acre equistrian center that has been specifically designed for a full range of activities, breeds, and users, such as hunter/jumpers, quarter horses, paint horses, dressage, ranch horse shows, breed shows, and youth events.

The Chicken Strut in Bethune is a three day festival held in April to recognize Bethune as the largest egg producer in the United States. Events include concerts, square dancing, sky diving demonstrations, craft fairs, and pony rides.
