2024 8th Grade Expo

November 4, 2024

Students observing a local industry

On November 1st, 2024, 225 eighth graders gathered from the four middle schools from around Kershaw County. They were greeted by the staff of Kershaw County Economic Development and the County Administrator. All the students were gifted drawstring bags with a water bottle inside.

The students rotated between four zones: Manufacturing zone, IT/Technoligies zone, Imagine zone, and the trade zone. 11 of the local manufacturing industries participated in this year's expo. The participants are as follows: GE Appliances, INVISTA, Cogsdill Tools, Denkai America, Custom Profile, Target Distribution, Hengst, Prestage Foods, Mancor, Canfor Southern Pine, and New South Express.

Kershaw County Fire and EMS were in attendance as well. Members from the IT and GIS department had a demonstration as well.

The 8th graders also learned about HVAC and Mechatronics. For the trade zone, Black River Electric brought their bucket truck.

When all the schools visited each zone, it was time to break for lunch. Chick-Fil-A boxes were provided to every student and teacher as well as each participant in the event.

Thank you to all our partners in this event! (Central Carolina Technical College, Woolard Technology Center, SCDEW, Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce)
