Investment brings jobs, breakthrough technology
CAMDEN, S.C. (August 31, 2016)—A $30-million investment at INVISTA’s fiber manufacturing plant near Camden will bring breakthrough technology and strengthen the site’s competitive position in the carpet fiber industry.
The new technology and equipment enables INVISTA to produce many different colors of carpet fibers in small volumes. Carpet mills and manufacturers continue to demand these small-lot products in order to produce the sophisticated, fashionable carpets that are popular with today’s consumers.
About 100 additional, temporary jobs will be created during construction and about 20 full-time roles once complete. Construction on the asset should be complete by the end of 2017.
“This project is a significant investment, and speaks volumes to the confidence that INVISTA has in this asset and the Camden employees’ ability to successfully operate this new technology,” said Steve Kimpton, Camden site manager.
“The support and encouragement of community leaders was part of the success. While the INVISTA Camden team will maintain its relentless commitment to compliance and manufacturing excellence as this project moves forward, our community can be assured that INVISTA will also continue building upon its track record of responsible corporate citizenship,” Kimpton said.
The variety of small-lot nylon 6,6 fibers will be offered initially under INVISTA’s Antron® Lumena™ brand for commercial applications.
INVISTA’s Camden, S.C., site produces nylon fiber used in the manufacture of INVISTA global brands of STAINMASTER® residential brand carpet fiber as well as ANTRON® commercial brand carpet.
